Privacy Policy
Version 1.0 · Last Updated: June 29, 2026 · Effective Date: June 29, 2026
1. Introduction
Suppertime (“Suppertime,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a mobile application that helps solo travelers discover local activities, meet other travelers nearby, join activity-based group chats, and plan trips together. We are the data controller responsible for your personal data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices and rights you have. Undefined terms used here have the same meaning as in our Terms and Conditions. By using Suppertime, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
One thing we want to be clear about up front: Suppertime does not use face recognition or biometric verification. We do not scan, map, or match your face, and we do not build or use any biometric database. See Section 2 for details on how we handle photos.
2. Information We Collect
Some information is required to create and run your account; some is optional. If you don’t provide required information, we may not be able to give you access to parts of the app.
Information you provide
- Account information: your name or display name, email address, and the credentials from your chosen sign-in method (Sign in with Google, or Sign in with Apple).
- Profile details: things like your bio, age, gender, home country, languages spoken, interests, and profile photos.
- Content you create: activities you host, trips you plan, messages you send in activity group chats, and city ratings or insights you contribute.
- Images: profile pictures.
- Support and reports: information you send us when you contact support, or when you report or block another user.
Information we collect automatically
- Approximate location: collected through your device to power the map, nearby activities, and nearby-traveler features. We work with approximate location (a geohash radius around a city), not a continuous precise GPS trail. You can limit this through your device settings.
- Usage data: how you use the app — for example, which activities and profiles you view, and when your profile is viewed by others.
- Device and log data: device model, operating system and app version, language, time zone, IP address, and diagnostic data related to sign-ins, crashes, and errors.
How we handle photos (no biometrics)
The profile pictures you upload are automatically analyzed for explicit, violent, or otherwise prohibited content using Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch. This is a content-safety scan, not facial recognition: it checks whether an image is safe, it does not identify who is in it. Profile pictures are the only images you upload to Suppertime — there are no activity or cover images, and you cannot send images in group chats. Pictures flagged as adult, violent, or racy may be removed automatically, and a strike may be recorded on your account. Flagged pictures may occasionally be reviewed by a person under confidentiality obligations. We do not use your photos to train AI models.
Text moderation
Text you submit — such as activity titles and descriptions, your display name and bio, and city ratings or insights — is automatically screened using OpenAI’s moderation service to detect harassment, spam, scams, sexual solicitation, threats, illegal activity, and other prohibited conduct. Content that violates our policies may be rejected, reverted, or removed, and a strike may be recorded. We do not routinely read private group-chat messages; human review is limited to content that has been flagged or reported, or where it is necessary to investigate safety, security, legal, or policy concerns.
3. Expiring Group Chats and Ephemeral Content
Suppertime is built around group activities, not private messaging. There are no one-to-one DMs and no friend/follower graph. Conversations happen in the group chat attached to a specific activity.
Because of this, much of your activity data is short-lived by design. When an activity’s time window ends, the group and its messages expire and are removed from the app, so you are not left with permanent threads tied to strangers. Limited records may persist briefly in backups (see Section 8) or be retained where we must do so to investigate abuse or comply with law (see Section 5). This data-minimizing approach is a core part of how Suppertime works.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create, maintain, and secure your account and sign you in.
- Provide core features: the activity map, nearby activities, nearby travelers, group chats, trip planning, and city information.
- Show relevant content based on approximate location, including your distance from other users where you have allowed it.
- Provide engagement features such as profile-view notifications, and — for Suppertime Premium subscribers — additional profile-view insights.
- Manage and administer Suppertime Premium subscriptions.
- Keep the community safe: detect, prevent, investigate, and act on violations of our Terms and Community Guidelines through automated and human-assisted moderation.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized or illegal activity.
- Improve, troubleshoot, and analyze the performance of the app.
- Send notifications you have opted into, and service messages necessary to run the app.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
5. How We Share Information
We may share your information:
- With other users, according to your settings — for example, your public profile and the activities and group chats you take part in.
- With service providers who help us run the app (see Section 6). They only receive what they need and are bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
- For legal and safety reasons, to comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of Suppertime, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, where any successor must honor this policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Nearby travelers and your location visibility
When you are in an area, your public profile (such as name, photo, home country, and age) may appear to other users browsing nearby travelers. Your exact location is never shown. Your position is associated with an approximate map grid rather than a precise pin, and others can only see the general area. In remote or sparsely populated places, grid-based visibility may still allow someone to infer your general region — by using the app you accept this. You can control location sharing through your device settings and the relevant options in the app.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following providers to operate Suppertime. Each receives only the information needed for its function and may not use it for unrelated purposes:
- Firebase (Google LLC) — authentication, database, storage, cloud functions, analytics, crash reporting, and App Check.
- Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch — automated image safety scanning.
- OpenAI — automated moderation of text content.
7. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
You can manage much of your data directly in the app — update your profile, control location sharing, manage notifications, and delete your account under Settings → Delete Account. Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR, if you are in the EU/EEA), you may also have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and request portability where applicable.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data you cannot correct yourself.
- Erase your personal data, subject to limits where we must retain certain records for legal, tax, safety, or fraud-prevention reasons.
- Restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise these rights, email support@suppertime.xyz. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We do not show personalized ads and do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
8. Data Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described here and as permitted by law. In practice:
- Account and profile data is kept while your account is active and deleted when you delete your account, except where we must retain limited records.
- Activity group chats and messages expire with the activity, as described in Section 3.
- Moderation and safety records (reports, flags, enforcement history, and related log data) may be retained as long as reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations.
- Backups may contain residual copies for a limited period before they are overwritten.
9. International Data Transfers
Suppertime relies on service providers that may store and process data in other regions, including the European Economic Area and the United States. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we use appropriate safeguards required by applicable law, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum where relevant).
10. Data Security
No system is perfectly secure, but we maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. Access to personal data is limited to authorized people and service providers under contractual and technical controls, and data is encrypted in transit and, where applicable, at rest.
11. Children’s Privacy
Suppertime is for adults aged 18 and over because it arranges real-world meetups between strangers. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will remove it and delete their data.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version and update the “Last Updated” date above, and for material changes we will provide notice where required. Your continued use of Suppertime after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
